Champions Trophy 2025: Pakistan Hosts, But Will India Participate?

The 2025 Champions Trophy is set to take place in Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, 2025. This will be the ninth edition of the tournament and the first time Pakistan is hosting a major global cricket event since the 2009 attack on the Sri Lankan national cricket team. There is uncertainty over India’s participation in Pakistan due to political and security concerns. A hybrid model or alternative venues like the UAE might be considered if India refuses to travel. India has not been playing in Pakistan since 2006.

Champions Trophy 2025 Format

The top 8 teams from the 2023 World Cup will contest for the trophy, with 4 teams in each group. Each team will play 3 games in a round-robin format. We will witness major rivalries between Australia and England and between India and Pakistan.

The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the semifinals, and the winners of the semifinals will play in the final. This is the same format that was used previously in 2017.

In the 2025 Champions Trophy, India is scheduled to play Pakistan in Lahore on March 1st during the group stage. The Pakistan Cricket Board is ensuring that all arrangements, including security and facilities, are of the highest standard to provide a successful and memorable cricketing experience and to promote cricket in Pakistan.

However, India’s participation is still not confirmed by the highest governing body of cricket.

Will India Tour Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025?

According to a report, India is unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the 2025 Champions Trophy due to ongoing political differences between the two countries. The Cricket board of Pakistan proposed that all of India’s group stage matches be played in Lahore for security reasons.

A source told SportTak, “We haven’t discussed anything about the Champions Trophy, but I think it’s unlikely that we will travel to Pakistan. The final call will be taken by the government.”

In a similar situation last year, India did not participate in the Asia Cup hosted by Pakistan, and the matches were moved to Sri Lanka.
